Cheatham Lab in the Community
The Cheatham Nutrition & Cognition Lab has been all over sharing nutrition, health, and wellness with the community. Here is a look at some of the places we have visited in the past year.
Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County
Members of the lab visited the Boys and Girls Club and brought along a sugar demonstration. This activity showed kids popular snacks and drinks and then asked the kids to guess the amount of sugar that is in each of those items. Afterwards, the group headed outside where Grace led them in yoga to get warmed up and stretched out, followed by a fun game of kickball!
Fourth-graders from Salisbury Academy invited us to visit their school and talk about nutrition. We started the afternoon with some yoga and ended with everyone creating their own tasty hummus!
Our friends at the Kannapolis Library have invited us over for several events. We have shared our sugar demonstration, as well as "Ready, Set, Grow!", an activity that asks kids to plant a seed and chart it's growth.
Kaleidoscope Festival, Kannapolis
The Town of Kannapolis hosts a festival several times a year called the Kaleidoscope Festival. People set up tents and booths to sell items or share information. We like to bring along various activities for kids of all ages. The fruit and vegetable people have been a favorite each time!
Boger Elementary, Kannapolis
Grace had the opportunity to visit a Boger Elementary school class and read "Where the Wild Things Are".
